eSIM for France: what to know

In France Orange, SFR, Bouygues and Free cover Paris, the Côte d'Azur, Lyon, Bordeaux and every major motorway, with 5G in the cities. Service is weaker in the Alps above the ski stations, in the Pyrenees and in rural areas.

Your own data in Paris means metro navigation, timed tickets for the Louvre and Versailles, and app taxis instead of street ones. Tourist SIMs in France are expensive, and an eSIM already works at Charles de Gaulle.

Plans connect to Orange on 4G/5G. The network is picked automatically, and Wi-Fi hotspot is allowed.

There are 18 plans: 100 MB to 50 GB of data, valid 7 days to 180 days, from €1.00. Per-day plans are available too — handy for short trips. The best price per gigabyte is the 50 GB / 30 days plan at €28.33.

Traffic exits to the internet via Europe — keep this in mind for banking apps and geo-restricted services.

Install the profile before you travel, at home over Wi-Fi: validity starts the first time the eSIM joins a network at the destination, not at purchase.

Payment

Pay by international or Russian card, or in crypto. The eSIM QR code arrives by email within a couple of minutes — no account needed.

Tips for France

  • Book timed tickets for the Louvre, Versailles and the Eiffel Tower in advance — without a slot you will not get in during the season.
  • At ski resorts there is service at the stations and in the villages; on far pistes and lifts it drops out.
  • 3 GB covers a week in Paris; a road trip with car navigation needs 5–10 GB.

How much data you need

As a guide: maps, messengers and social feeds use about 500 MB a day; add video and calls and it is 1 GB or more.

eSIM for France: questions

All eSIM questions →
Is there signal in the Paris metro?
Yes, 4G works on all lines, including between stations. On suburban RER trains the signal drops in places.
Does the eSIM work in Corsica?
Yes, Corsica is covered by the same operators. In the island's mountains and on the GR20 trail the signal is weak.
Which networks does the France eSIM use?
Plans connect to Orange. The network is selected automatically when the eSIM registers; nothing to switch by hand.
Is 5G available on France plans?
Yes, plans support 4G/5G. Real-world speed depends on the operator's coverage where you are and on whether your phone supports 5G.
How much does a France eSIM cost?
From €1.00 for a 100 MB plan. The best value per gigabyte is 50 GB for 30 days at €28.33. The price is fixed at checkout, with no fees on top.
What IP address will the France eSIM have?
Traffic exits to the internet via Europe, so websites see you as a visitor from there. That is normal for travel eSIMs, but keep it in mind for banking apps and geo-restricted services.
Can I share the France eSIM data as a hotspot?
Yes, Wi-Fi hotspot (tethering) is allowed on every France plan. Shared traffic comes out of the same allowance.
When does the validity period start?
The first time the eSIM joins a network at the destination, not at purchase. Install the profile in advance and switch it on when you land.
How do I pay?
By Mastercard issued anywhere, a Russian card, or crypto. Visa is accepted from Russian banks only. The QR code arrives by email within a couple of minutes.
